And here came across the story of Leigh Slugger and Brill, the first suffers from cerebral palsy , the second an incredible Labrador Retriever. Slugger was educated by two different trainers , which were his emotional reference points for the first two years of his life, and is a "service dog", a guide dog trained to become a vital support for people affected by this disease. But Slugger is not just an "operator", is also a dog. when he wears his vest , knows that his focus is the only Leigh, helps to collect the objects that you can not drop, the lights on and off, opens and closes doors, helps her to walk, climb and down stairs, when the service is aware that must not be distracted, can not accept tasty morsels or watch dogs around, nor pay attention to people who would call him to play. But daily Leigh Brill shall create moments of rest and play, pampering and fun. When without chest Slugger is happy to meet other people and other dogs, loves to chase his ball and create new games, running and jumping around happily. At these times it is simply a dog ... .. so much trouble if you combine small dog left alone at home, despite his impeccable demeanor when he is at work! And it is the versatility of the dog surprised to leave, he knows clear distinction between a role and the other . It is in times of non-work that the relationship between the two new discovers the truth and is no less important moments of work, indeed, the enhanced each other.
And is not this kind of relationship the most complete and mutual , than the dog "used" only to accomplish missions? As always the easiest and shortest way is not necessarily the best ....
(I only regret that this book, A Dog Named Slugger , has not yet been translated into Italian, is available in English version also ePub)
